Prysmian Group, world leader in the energy and telecom cable systems industry, released a new, 288-fiber, reduced diameter microduct cable. The 288-fiber ezMICRODUCT, made with 200-micron fiber, has an outer diameter of only 8 mm. This marks the latest innovation to Prysmian Group’s already impressive microduct product line, which includes a 528-fiber cable optimized for 14 mm duct.

The 288-fiber ezMICRODUCT not only has a higher density, but was also developed for ease of installation. The size of the cable and amount of fiber allows the installer to work with existing infrastructure. With 24 fibers per tube, the fibers are easier to identify and fit into a standard splicing tray. With an operating temperature of -40°F to 158°F, this cable is suitable for microduct systems anywhere in the U.S.

“Our latest generation of microduct products continues to push the boundaries of fiber density,” said Jim Ryan, Technical Market Manager for OSP Cables. “This density is achieved by using 200-micron, bend-insensitive fiber, while only using 24 fibers per tube. Some competitor designs are accomplishing this density by adding more fibers in each tube, complicating fiber identification and splicing. Our design was developed with the installer in mind while maximizing density.”

“Our 200-micron fiber uses the same glass as a standard sized (250-micron), bend-insensitive fiber,” Jon Fitz, Director of Advanced Business Solutions added. “This allows the 200-micron fiber to be individually fusion spliced directly to legacy 250-micron fibers, or mass-fusion spliced with a pitch adapter, making installing with existing infrastructure easy.”

This innovation shows Prysmian Groups commitment to fiber and telecommunications. The company’s ezMICRODUCT, a specialized loose tube design for jetted microduct installations, and FlexRibbon technology, which maximizes fiber density and duct utilization in the smallest cable possible, continue to expand Prysmian Group’s extensive portfolio to provide high-dense, easy to install products.
