Make It: Cristina’s inspiring journey, from pharmaceutical industry to cables

“I was working as an Industrial Performance Engineer in the pharmaceutical industry
when I discovered the Make It program online”

Cristina-Elena Baisan

Production Supervisor

That’s how Cristina-Elena Baisan first bumped into Prysmian and its A-class training and career development program dedicated to manufacturing engineers worldwide.

Opening doors to young professionals from across industries, Make It selects motivated self-starters looking to bring passion, determination, previous experiences and new knowledge toward putting ideas into action. New recruits find they really can make it in careers spanning a number of fields where Prysmian operates and excels – from Energy cables & systems to Telecom, from Oil & Gas to all the diverse applications, in the field of manufacturing and in landmark buildings all around the world, wherever they may be called into action.

“I sent in my application out of sheer curiosity – I thought it’d be great to be involved in a new plant start-up, while gaining more international exposure and career advancement. I had no idea how far - in such a short time - my online application would take me.” After a relatively standard interview process, Cristina started her journey with Prysmian.

“I could see that Prysmian was dedicated to my personal and professional development. At the same time, I knew I would have an opportunity to build a global professional network and gain international exposure. As a woman, I was impressed how important achieving diversity was to the organization – even in such a male-dominated field such as cable manufacturing!”

From here, Cristina joined the Make It orientation program which brought her first to the Milan headquarters and then to the Prysmian Group Manufacturing Academy in Mudanya (Turkey) as well as to other sites around the world to be trained firsthand by top management, cutting edge experts and management professors. While working on expanding her professional skills, she was active in ramping up factory sites and industrial construction projects.

Not only that, but Make It is dedicated to pairing new hires with mentors – so they immediately learn even more and can count on someone who has their back. New hires are integrated easily into the work force, becoming part of a global team with high expectations to satisfy both customers and the Company people for producing quality results.

During the four-year training and career development program employees gain more and more expertise, knowledge of Prysmian operations and innovative products, contacts and management skills.

The formal and on-the-job training programs have been a career highlight. I learned how to become more resilient, while gaining more self-confidence. I developed my critical thinking ability and improved both my soft skills and my technical acumen. Working in a diverse, international setting has other advantages as well. I hope to pursue within the Group some specific projects such as Lean Six Sigma, Fiber Optics and Business Connectivity – being given the freedom to set in motion new initiatives makes Prysmian rise above the rest.”
