Supporting education for sustainable development

JULY 2017

Prysmian Group is committed to making the life of people across the world more worth living and satisfying. But achieving such an ambitious goal is not just the matter of state-of-the-art productions, global footprint and attention to the customer needs. It is also about people and opportunities for life: it is about contributing day by day to the growth of new generations, to the education to best practices and to the respect of the others and of the environment. Consistently with this mission, Prysmian has developed many initiatives of cooperation with the organizations that operates to build a better tomorrow for any of us.

It should not surprise, then, the signing of a new partnership with AIESEC for the program “Youth for Global Goals”, addressing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) identified by the United Nations as the most urgent areas of intervention in the world for the next 15 years.

AIESEC is the world’s largest youth-run organization that strives to achieve peace and fulfillment of humankind’s potential, and its new initiative aims at activating young people to contribute towards the achievement of the SDGs.

Thanks to this partnership, Prysmian Group will encourage employees and AIESEC’s members to carry out worldwide projects related to social and sustainability issues.

The Group will act as a sponsor, through its local affiliates, in Student Exchange projects targeting young people from all over the world with the aim to nourish and enhance leadership skills of the global youth. Moreover, Prysmian will involve its under-30 employees in the Global Volunteer project to carry out international projects related to the Group sustainability vision.

“The future of everyone depends on the sharing of different experiences and cultures and on the respect of differences, which represent both a professional and human asset”

“We are extremely proud of the partnership with AIESEC, with which we share very important values by putting people at the center of our projects,” said Fabrizio Rutschmann. “Our common goal is to give value to people and their potential. The future of everyone depends on the sharing of different experiences and cultures and on the respect of differences, which represent both a professional and human asset.”
In fact, the collaboration with AIESEC is strictly connected with Prysmian Group’s sustainability strategy, based on the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Many of the goals framed by the United Nations are crucial for the company itself, and were adopted by Prysmian Group in its sustainability plan: Industry, Innovation & Infrastructure, Sustainable Cities and communities, Responsible Consumption and Production, and Gender Equality.

It appeared a logical consequence for the Group to undertake this goals in the outside world as well. In particular, gender equality is the key topic chosen by the Group to be discussed at the annual AIESEC "Global Youth Speak Forum".

"We are very glad to have Prysmian with us in such an important initiative as Youth for Global Goals," said Niels Maurice Caszo, President of AIESEC. "Prysmian Group, a long-time committed company in pursuing sustainability-related activities, a culture of respect of all differences and always attentive in giving value to people, represents the ideal partner for us."

This new cooperation revives a long-term relationship between the organizations, as Prysmian already supported an initiative run by Aiesec in 2016: two exchange participants from Romania and Germany went to Brazil with air flight tickets and Exchange Participant Fee paid by Prysmian. They took part to a 6-week project to teach kids who live in Santarém to live in a more eco friendly way and preserve the Amazon forest that surrounds them.

Raluca was one of the participants to this first exchange. After the end of the program, she underlined that “as a young graduate, this is by far the most satisfying teaching experience by now: watching a small seed called “awareness” sprouting in my class; seeing adolescents waking up in the morning and coming to school to finish their activity, out of their schedule or kids running to you and expressing their will to “travel the world” just because they had a meaningful contact with an international.” Words that show the importance of this kind of initiatives, making us proud and more committed in reaching the best results in the new “Youth for Global Goals” project.

To leave, together with AIESEC, another little positive mark in the contemporary society.

Awareness, self-fulfillment and desire of new discoveries: the ingredients for the growth of the new generations and for the creation of a sustainable, livable and welcoming world for tomorrow.
